Successful Completion of the “Professional Medical Interpreting Training Program – Batch 1”
On December 17-18, 2025, the Professional Translators and Interpreters Society (PTIS), under the guidance of the Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI), successfully hosted the first-ever “Professional Medical Interpreting Training Program” in Bangkok.
Comprehensive and Engaging Content
Participants gained essential knowledge and skills tailored for professional interpreters working in hospitals and public health settings. Key topics included:
- The distinctions between translation and interpreting
- Mastering the four interpreting modes for medical contexts
- Legal and ethical considerations for medical interpreting
- Techniques for handling sensitive and challenging scenarios
- Professional note-taking for consecutive interpreting
- Navigating cultural nuances, nonverbal communication, and sensitive language such as profanity and euphemisms
- Hands-on practice with Over the Phone Interpreting (OPI) and exposure to U.S. public service interpreting protocols
A Diverse Group of Participants
The program welcomed participants from varied backgrounds, including current medical interpreters and individuals aspiring to enter the field of hospital and public health interpreting.

The sessions were conducted by SEAProTI-certified experts and guest speakers with real-world experience in medical and public health interpreting, providing participants with practical insights and techniques.

The Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI) has officially announced the criteria and qualifications for individuals to register as “Certified Translators,” “Translation Certification Providers,” and “Certified Interpreters” under the association’s regulations. These guidelines are detailed in Sections 9 and 10 of the Royal Thai Government Gazette, issued by the Secretariat of the Cabinet under the Office of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, dated July 25, 2024, Volume 141, Part 66 Ng, Page 100.

เมื่อวันที่ 17-18 ธันวาคม 2565 ชมรมนักแปลและล่ามอาชีพ (Professional Translators and Interpreters Society – PTIS) ภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของสมาคมวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (SEAProTI) ได้จัดอบรมหลักสูตร “ล่ามโรงพยาบาลและงานสาธารณสุข” รุ่นที่ 1 ณ กรุงเทพมหานคร
เนื้อหาการอบรมที่เข้มข้นและน่าสนใจ
ผู้เข้าร่วมอบรมได้รับความรู้และฝึกฝนทักษะที่จำเป็นต่อการประกอบวิชาชีพล่ามในโรงพยาบาลและงานสาธารณสุขอย่างมืออาชีพ อาทิ:
- ความแตกต่างระหว่างนักแปลและล่าม
- เทคนิค 4 โหมดการล่ามในบริบททางการแพทย์
- กฎหมาย จรรยาบรรณ และข้อควรระวังในการล่ามทางการแพทย์
- การแปลคำด่า คำสบถ และบริบทอ่อนไหวอย่างมืออาชีพ
- ฝึกการล่าม Over the Phone (OPI) และศึกษาโปรโตคอลที่ได้รับความนิยมในสหรัฐอเมริกา
