Becoming a Member of the Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI)

The Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters, known as SEAProTI, is an organization established to promote and develop the standards of the translation and interpreting profession in the Southeast Asian region. SEAProTI aims to support professionals in achieving the highest quality and elevate global standards in the field. Becoming a member not only validates one’s competence and professionalism but also builds a strong network within a community of linguists immersed in one of the world’s most culturally and linguistically diverse regions.

Eligibility for Membership

SEAProTI emphasizes professionalism and dedication in its membership requirements. Key qualifications for applicants include:

1. Age and Readiness: Applicants must be of legal age and in good physical and mental health to practice in the profession.
2. Occupation and Experience: Applicants should have experience in translation or interpreting, whether as full-time professionals, full-time freelancers, or trainees in private organizations. 
3. Conduct and Ethics: Members must adhere to ethical standards, maintain professionalism, and have no record of misconduct or unethical behavior.

Document Preparation

Requirements and Procedures for Applying as a “Certified Translator” and “Certified Interpreter” with the Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters

The Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI) has outlined specific requirements and procedures for applying to become certified translators and interpreters, aiming to uphold professional standards. Below are the details:

For “Certified Translator” Applications

1. Complete the Membership Application Form

• Fill out the application form in full and attach proof of payment for the application fee (details specified in the form).

2. Copy of ID Card or Passport

• Submit a certified true copy of your ID card or passport.

3. Copy of Degree Certificate and Transcript

• Provide certified true copies.
• In some cases, original documents may be required, and foreign-issued documents may need to be verified by the Department of Consular Affairs.

4. Language Proficiency Test Results

• Submit original documents only from recognized foreign language proficiency tests, such as TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalents.

5. Certificate of Completion for Mandatory Training

• Provide certificates for SEAProTI-certified training courses required for C1, C2, and C3 examinations.

6. Samples of Translation Work

• Each sample must include a translated document of at least 2,000 words.
• Attach the original document, the translated document, and a letter of work verification, such as a letter from an employer, PO, invoice, or payment receipt with employer details (original documents only).

7. Practical Translation Examination

• Submit the SEAProTI test score with the application (tests may be conducted online or on-site as scheduled).

8. Criminal Background Check Certificate

• Issued by the Royal Thai Police (original document only) in the event that the applicants are Thai; non-Thai applicants shall request this document from an authorized organization from their countries. 

9. Bankruptcy Check Certificate

• Issued by the Department of Legal Execution (original document only) in the event that the applicants are Thai; non-Thai applicants shall request this document from an authorized organization from their countries. 

For “Certified Interpreter” Applications

1. Complete the Membership Application Form

• Fill out the application form in full and attach proof of payment for the application fee (details specified in the form).

2. Copy of ID Card or Passport

• Submit a certified true copy of your ID card or passport.

3. Copy of Degree Certificate and Transcript

• Provide certified true copies.
• In some cases, original documents may be required, and foreign-issued documents may need to be verified by the Department of Consular Affairs.

4. Language Proficiency Test Results

• Submit original documents only from recognized foreign language proficiency tests.

Additional Requirements for All Levels (C1, C2, C3)

• From February 1, 2024, all applicants must pass an examination to prevent unauthorized individuals from exploiting loopholes to gain certification.

• Examination Scores:
  – C1 Level: Focuses on basic knowledge and attitude through a written exam and interview. Applicants must score at least 80%.
  – C2 Level: Requires a passing score of 70% based on standard criteria.
  – C3 Level: Requires a passing score of 80% based on standard criteria.

Additional Conditions

• Applicants must not work as freelance translators or interpreters for agencies not accredited or without an MOU with SEAProTI.
• The committee reserves the right to impose additional requirements if an applicant’s qualifications are deemed insufficient.

Adhering to these guidelines is essential to maintain credibility as a certified translator or interpreter and to establish sustainable standards in the translation and interpreting industry within Southeast Asia.

Qualification Assessment

4. Written Examination and Interview

Applicants may need to pass a written test in translation or interpreting and undergo an interview to assess their skills and knowledge in the field.

5. Membership Fee Payment

Upon acceptance, applicants must pay the membership fee as determined by the association. This fee covers benefits such as access to training programs and participation in professional activities.

   สมาชิกต้องปฏิบัติตามมาตรฐานจรรยาบรรณ รักษาความเป็นมืออาชีพ และไม่มีประวัติการกระทำผิดที่ขัดต่อจริยธรรม

ขั้นตอนการสมัครสมาชิก

กระบวนการสมัครสมาชิก SEAProTI มีความโปร่งใส และออกแบบมาเพื่อให้มั่นใจว่าผู้สมัครมีคุณสมบัติที่ครบถ้วนและเหมาะสม:

ข้อกำหนดและขั้นตอนสำหรับการสมัครเป็น “นักแปลรับรอง” และ “ล่ามรับรอง”

สมาคมวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (SEAProTI) ได้กำหนดข้อกำหนดและขั้นตอนการสมัครเพื่อเป็นนักแปลและล่ามรับรอง โดยมีรายละเอียดดังนี้:

   ยื่นสำเนาบัตรประชาชนหรือหนังสือเดินทางที่ได้รับการรับรองสำเนาถูกต้อง

3. สำเนาปริญญาบัตรและทรานสคริปต์
   ยื่นสำเนาที่ได้รับการรับรองสำเนาถูกต้อง
   ในบางกรณีอาจต้องใช้เอกสารตัวจริง และเอกสารที่ออกจากต่างประเทศอาจต้องผ่านการรับรองจากกรมการกงสุล

4. ผลสอบความสามารถทางภาษา
   ยื่นเอกสารตัวจริงเท่านั้นจากการสอบที่ได้รับการยอมรับ เช่น TOEFL, IELTS หรือเทียบเท่า

5. ประกาศนียบัตรอบรมหลักสูตรบังคับ
   แนบประกาศนียบัตรที่ได้รับจากการอบรมหลักสูตรที่สมาคมกำหนด สำหรับการสอบระดับ C1, C2 และ C3

6. ตัวอย่างงานแปล 10 ชิ้น

   • แต่ละตัวอย่างต้องมีเอกสารแปลไม่น้อยกว่า 2,000 คำ
   • แนบต้นฉบับ งานแปล และหนังสือรับรองการทำงาน เช่น หนังสือรับรองจากนายจ้าง PO หรือใบแจ้งหนี้ (รับเฉพาะเอกสารตัวจริง)

7. การสอบปฏิบัติการแปลเอกสาร
   ยื่นผลคะแนนการสอบที่ได้รับจาก SEAProTI พร้อมกับใบสมัคร (สอบออนไลน์หรือออนไซต์ตามกำหนด)

8. ใบรับรองประวัติอาชญากรรม
   ออกโดยสำนักงานตำรวจแห่งชาติ (รับเอกสารตัวจริงเท่านั้น)

9. ใบรับรองตรวจสอบสถานะบุคคลล้มละลาย
   ออกโดยกรมบังคับคดี (รับเอกสารตัวจริงเท่านั้น) 

กรณีสมัคร “ล่ามรับรอง”

1. กรอกใบสมัครสมาชิกสมาคม
   กรอกข้อมูลในใบสมัครให้ครบถ้วน พร้อมแนบหลักฐานการชำระเงินค่าธรรมเนียมสมัคร

2. สำเนาบัตรประชาชนหรือหนังสือเดินทาง
   ยื่นสำเนาบัตรประชาชนหรือหนังสือเดินทางที่ได้รับการรับรองสำเนาถูกต้อง

3. สำเนาปริญญาบัตรและทรานสคริปต์
   ยื่นสำเนาที่ได้รับการรับรองสำเนาถูกต้อง
   ในบางกรณีอาจต้องใช้เอกสารตัวจริง และเอกสารที่ออกจากต่างประเทศอาจต้องผ่านการรับรองจากกรมการกงสุล

• ตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 กุมภาพันธ์ 2567 เป็นต้นไป ผู้สมัครทุกระดับต้องผ่านการสอบเท่านั้น เพื่อป้องกันการใช้ช่องโหว่ในระบบ
• เกณฑ์คะแนนสอบ:
  • C1: สอบพื้นฐานและสัมภาษณ์ด้านทัศนคติ ต้องได้คะแนนรวม 80% ขึ้นไป
  • C2: ต้องได้คะแนนอย่างน้อย 70%
  • C3: ต้องได้คะแนนอย่างน้อย 80%

สิทธิประโยชน์ของการเป็นสมาชิก

ณ วันที่ 25 กรกฎาคม 2567 สมาชิกของ SEAProTI จะได้รับสิทธิประโยชน์ดังนี้:

• การยอมรับในระดับสากล: สร้างความน่าเชื่อถือในวงการแปลและล่ามทั้งในระดับภูมิภาคและระดับโลก

• การเผยแพร่ผลงาน: เผยแพร่ผลงานผ่านแพลตฟอร์มของสมาคม เช่น วารสารหรือเว็บไซต์
